MONTGOMERY FAMILY MEDICINE RESIDENCY PROGRAM

The Montgomery Family Medicine Residency Program offers residents high-quality primary healthcare training in an educational environment in which to become successful physicians.
Baptist Health sponsors this unopposed, community based program. Each year six residents are accepted into the three-year academic program where they receive a broad training in primary care. The resident physicians continue their training in adult medicine, pediatrics, obstetrics, sports medicine and all other areas of Family Medicine. They also gain experience in areas such as emergency medicine, general surgery, orthopedic surgery, urology, cardiology, critical care medicine, gastroenterology, rheumatology, pulmonology, dermatology, geriatric patient care and many other sub-specialties.
Resident physicians in the program are trained by experienced, board certified faculty. Resident physicians provide supervised medical care to their established patient clientele. Patients are seen by appointment in a typical private practice setting. Residents are under the supervision of the residency faculty physicians and community attending physicians.
Patients from Montgomery and the surrounding River Region area benefit from the program with resident physicians performing rotations in areas outside Montgomery the metro area.
The resident faculty consists of board certified family physicians including, Tom Kincer, M.D., program director, and faculty members, Jack Mahurin, D.O., Melissa Thompson, M.D., Harold Cox, M.D., Irina Licea, M.D. and Michele Connor, M.D. Dr. Franklin Scott, a board certified pediatrician, heads up the pediatric component of the curriculum. Karl Kirkland, PhD, a clinical psychologist, serves as director of Behavioral Medicine. Lori Hornsby, PharmD and Amy Donaldson, PharmD, assist the residents with patient pharmacology needs while also precepting Auburn University pharmacy students at the clinic. The program receives strong support from Montgomery area physicians who also serve as the clinical faculty.
The primary care center, or Baptist Family Medicine as the clinic is called, is located on Narrow Lane Road. It provides residents and patients with new technology and accommodations needed for a successful primary care facility.
With the goal of enhancing the medical services of the people of Montgomery and the surrounding River Region area, the residency program pledges a commitment to the community and its need for primary medical care.
